Objectives
Present to students the fundamentals of corporate strategy. Provide students with a comprehensive and critic view in the area of strategic information systems applied to the performance management of organizations and to the support of strategic decisions, with an emphasis on balanced scorecard and quality management. Students are intended to develop the ability to design and evaluate different balanced scorecards, and to be able to apply the lectured concepts to a case study in a particular business area. Students should also be able to implement dashboards for decision-making at a strategic level.

Stakeholder theory CP5. Porter's five forces model and generic strategies CP6. Quality - main ideas of Deming CP7. Resource-based view theory
Strategic Information Systems Module: CP8. Context and elements of the Balanced Scorecard CP9. Methodologies for the development of BSC CP10. Business models and customer value proposition design CP11. Critical success factors of a BSC project CP12. Key principles of TQM. How to measure quality in the context of a BSC? CP13. Data visualization and dashboard design CP14. Alignment between BSC and continuous improvement programs / TQM
Evaluation Method
There are two types of assessment: continuous assessment and final exam. The continuous assessment comprises: 1. Practical assignment (in group): 40% 2. Writing of a synthesis paper with the comparison of BSC and TQM approaches (in group): 20% 3. Individual test: 40%
Group composition between 2 and 4 students. There is a minimum score of 10/20 in each assessment component. The final exam grade constitutes 100% of the course grade.
Teaching Method
The total of 36h are divided into 18h of theoretical lectures (T) and 18h of theoretical-practical classes (TP). TP classes are used to discuss different case studies and exercises. TP classes are used to consolidate the concepts given in T classes and to provide the monitoring and tutoring of the BSC practical assignment to each group.
