Objectives
- To provide students with advanced topics in economic growth - Develop students? critical skills through the study of different economic growth models and their empirical application
Program
1. The neoclassical growth model: brief insights 2. First generation of endogenous growth model and human capital 3. Research and development and endogenous growth 3.1. Expanding variety 3.2. Schumpeterian approach 4. Embodied technological change
Evaluation Method
On-going assessment: - final exam weighting 50% on final grade. - individual assignment writing one short term paper with literature review, motivation, and the sketch of a new idea weighting 50% on final grade. Due the nature of the evaluation in this course, there is no 2nd chance exam.
Teaching Method
Students are encouraged to think about and start pitching different research ideas as early as possible. They are warned that the reading list is extensive and that they should carefully study the entire program before deciding on the topics to follow. Tutorial sessions will be available on demand to accompany students on their doubts on the topics and on their decisions related to assignment. The active search of new articles in the topics? fields is incited.
