Pre-requisites Fundamentals of Macroeconomics
Objectives At the end of this learning unit students are expected to have developed skills that allow them to understand the fundamental macroeconomic aspects of an economy's performance both in the short and in the long run.
Program 1. Economic growth facts and mathematical tools
2. The Solow growth model
3. Convergence and growth accounting
4. Endogenous growth models I: AK and learning-by-doing
5. Endogenous growth models II: ideas and Romer growth model
6. Consumption and saving decisions
7. Ricardian equivalence
8. Investment
9. The current account
10. Public deficits and public debt sustainability
Evaluation Method Performance evaluation is an ongoing activity as the term progresses and includes the following elements:
- To assist to a minimum of 80% of total lectures
- One middle-term test accounting for 50% of the final grade
- One final test accounting for 50% of the final result
- In order to get a positive grade in the course, the mark on the final test cannot be below 8/20.


Teaching Method Each student should acquire analytical, information gathering, written and oral communication skills.

The following learning methodologies (LM)will be used:

1. Expositional, to the presentation of the theoretical reference frames
2. Participative, with analysis and resolution of application exercises
3. Active, with the realization of individual test
4. Self-study, related with autonomous work by the student, as is contemplated in the Class Planning.
Observations Students are expected to participate actively throughout the semester. This means studying before classes, solving the problem sets, and complying with the course evaluation.
