Objectives
This is a Master's level course with the objectives of helping students to familiarize: with the central questions of economic growth theory; its applications to the analysis of economic growth sources; its uses in the discussion of differences in income across countries.
Program
1. Introduction to economic growth 2. Solow growth model 3. Confronting the Solow model with the data 4. The neoclassical growth model 5. The overlapping generations model 6. First generation endogenous growth models
Evaluation Method
Performance evaluation is an ongoing activity as the term progresses and includes the following elements: - Individual assignments based on problem solving accounting for 40% of final grade - One comprehensive exam accounting for 60% of final grade. - A positive grade is conditional on a final test grade above 8/20.
Teaching Method
The following learning methodologies (LM) will be used:
1. Expositional, to the presentation of the theoretical reference frames 2. Participative, with group analysis and resolution of application exercises 3. Active, with the realization of individual quizzes 4. Self-study, related with autonomous work by the student, as is contemplated in the Class Planning.
Observations
Students are expected to participate actively throughout the semester. This requires studying before classes, solving the problem sets, and complying with the course evaluation. At the e-learning platform all the lecture notes and assignments for the CU can be downloaded.
